Every 2 years we have a new District Committee Member. The DCM is required at all District 44 business meetings and functions. Must travel to and attend
all B.C. Yukon Area 79 Assemblies and Quarterlies wherever they are held throughout the Province. (4 times each year or online during crises) Must keep District informed of relevant A.A. information and works closely with Area 79. Keeps track of all meetings and group information and notifies Area when changes occur. Encourages members and groups to become more
involved. Attends to as many meetings as possible in District and keeps the flow of information moving at group level through GSR contact, live or by email. Arranges and attends all Workshops In District 44. The DCM must communicate well and be committed to and encourage Service. Become well acquainted with The A.A. Service Manual. Have working knowledge of the Steps, Traditions and Concepts. There is much learning involved in this position and progression is
necessary. A DCM report must be submitted monthly at District meetings. Another report is given each month to the Newsletter. Written reports are submitted to Area 4 times each year and can be reviewed in Grassroots. Oral reports are given at Quarterlies. The rewards that come with this position are too many to mention. There is a suggested minimum 3 years of continued sobriety for persons applying for this position.
The Treasurer maintains an accurate, running ledger, keeping track of all District 44 monies including all individual and group donations. Works with other members at District with cheque signing privileges to ensure all District bills are paid. The Treasurer is needed at every District meeting to provide an updated account of District finances. Working knowledge of Steps and Traditions is highly recommended. There is a 2 year sobriety requirement for this position.
Secretary will attend all District meetings and take minutes. These Minutes will then be sent out to District members for possible correction or additions before the next District meeting. Must have computer skills and be able to archive minutes. Secretary works with DCM to ensure meetings proceed smoothly and relevant District information is readily available. Working knowledge of Steps and Traditions is very helpful.
REMOTE CONNECTIONS CHAIR
Ensures that the District cell phone and speaker is fully charged. The Chair open the meeting place (Alano Club) at least 15 minutes prior to start of meeting. Connects those that District calls with those that call in, via conference call. Chair follows meeting guidelines and format
sheet and when meeting is finished, is the last one out and ensures meeting place is
securely locked. Chair is required to attend the monthly District meetings with Remote
Connections report.
ARCHIVES CHAIR
The Archives Chair is responsible for overseeing members of the committee. Collects and
documents the history of A.A. in District 44 through old newsletters, posters etc. as well as people in the program. Archives is currently recording history by interviewing long time members on CD for safe keeping in Archives. Chair attends monthly District meetings and is
encouraged to attend Area Quarterlies and Assemblies when able.
CORRECTIONS CHAIR
The Corrections Chair carries the message to alcoholics behind walls and coordinates with professionals working inside institutions to further their understanding of the A.A. message. The Chair works with committee members and volunteers in and out of institutions. Maintains contact with the Special Projects Officer (SPO) and submits the information for potential volunteers for both the inside meetings and the Non Security Escort (NSE) work.
(NSE) escorts prisoners to outside meetings. When called upon the Chair coordinates with Area 79 and the Upper Fraser Valley Corrections Committee. Helps the inside meetings by supplying literature, periodicals and anything else that helps the inside member maintain
sobriety. Also helps with pre release plans and outside contacts as well as letter writing now that there is a health crises. Attends monthly District meetings.
LITERATURE CHAIR
The Literature Chair encourages the fellowship to read, purchase and support Conference approved material. Purchases and maintains a basic supply of AAWS and Grapevine books
and pamphlets for sale and/or distribution to individual members, groups, District
Committees and agencies such as the Alano Club.
DUTIES:
Personally prepays for orders and is reimbursed by Treasurer; or obtains a cheque
from Treasurer for specific amount of purchase.
Receives and delivers orders for purchase and secures payment to forward to
NEWSLETTER
The District 44 Newsletter is produced to inform members and groups about what is happening in our District and Area on a monthly basis. This includes the DCM report, meeting directory, upcoming events, cakes and anniversaries etc. It is the Newsletter editors responsibility to compile, create, edit, print and distribute the Newsletter in a timely manner while guarding the A.A. Traditions. The editor is responsible to the District 44 Committee; attends and has a voice at the monthly District meetings. The Newsletter Editor should: Have a working knowledge of District 44, Area 79 and GSO. Have a Thorough understanding of the Steps and Traditions. Be familiar with computer programs such as Word. Be able to send and receive emails. Possess excellent verbal and communication skills.Have the means to pick up distribute copies.
PUBLIC INFORMATION (PI) CHAIR
The P.I. Chair informs the general public about our program, thereby helping carry the message
to the still suffering alcoholic. The Chair should form a committee and contact schools, clergy,
retirement homes and other organizations with the purpose of sharing knowledge of our
program. This could happen via talks, presentations, distributing of literature, staffing an A.A. booth etc. There is much more info available on this position. Anyone applying for this position is required to be very informed about our program and be able to provide accurate information. Recommended 2 years of continuous sobriety.
TREATMENT/ACCESSIBILITIES CHAIR
This Chair is responsible for creating and maintaining the connection between A.A. and
treatment centers or similar residential facilities. Duties include implementation of the Bridging the Gap program and introducing the residence of treatment centers to A.A. members in our District.
ACTIVITIES CHAIR
All one needs to apply for this position is a working knowledge of the Steps and the Traditions, a Home group and a suggested 1 year of sobriety. This position will appeal to someone who is committed, thinks clearly and is creative. This Chair will plan sober activities and events and
form committees to see the activities through. There is a wide range of activities that our
District could host. Picnics, BBQs, karaoke, bowling and dances are but a few ideas.
CELL PHONE CHAIR
This is a very rewarding opportunity to be of Service in our community. The Cell phone Chair must be available to answer the cell phone (hotline) 24 hrs a day. The phone will remain in your possession and if you miss a call you must return the call asap. Anonymity must be maintained at all times. Expect to answer 3 or 4 calls a week. These vary from requests for meeting information to requests for 12 th Step calls. Calls can also come in from those in crises and needing someone to talk to about our program.
The phone does not ring very often but when it does, the caller is hoping to hear a friendly and considerate voice at the other end. District has more information available for this position. It is
suggested that one applying for this position have 1 year minimum continuous sobriety, a working knowledge of our Steps and Traditions and be available to attend regular monthly District meetings to
give reports.
CPC CHAIR
The CPC Chair should form a committee who can provide information about our program to members of
the professional community who are themselves in direct contact with alcoholics in our District. This
could be teachers, clergy, health care workers, government agencies and those working in treatment
facilities and shelters, to name just a few. CPC could also man info booths at at various functions or fairs.
There is lots to be done. Those applying for this position must be able to supply accurate information
about our program, have working knowledge of our Steps and Traditions and Concepts and meet a
suggested 2 years of continuous sobriety.
